Far From the Tree brings us weird science, village gossip, hungry forests, tortured artists, and a vision of something watching you just out of the corner of your eye, all wrapped around intense and personal family drama. It asks, “What makes a man?” “What do we owe our family?” and “How do we choose between revenge and forgiveness?”

This is a game of No Dice, No Masters^[1], inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. It tells the story of a Father, who created life through unusual means, a Son, who was rejected by their creator, and their tumultuous relationship.

^[1] No Dice, No Masters is the system created by Avery Alder and Benjamin Rosenbaum for their games Dream Askew and Dream Apart, also called Belonging Outside Belonging.

CONTENT WARNING

This game is about a volatile parent-child relationship. Depending on player choices, it may range from messy but loving to outright adversarial. The game text contains references to substance use, parental neglect, patricide, and filicide.
